In 2009, two screenwriter friends of mine came to Los Angeles to attend the Shriekfest Horror/Scifi Film Festival. Their script was a finalist in the festival’s screenplay competition, and the winner was to be announced at the closing night awards ceremony. Shriekfest, as the name implies, focuses on horror, a genre that has a history of welcoming up-and-coming filmmakers and undiscovered screenwriters.
